Event Details
The high cost of generating electricity in remote locations of Brazil, especially in the Amazon Basin, represents an attractive market opportunity for small-scale power supply systems that can be both flexible and dispatchable, as it would be the case for a typical SMR technology. On the one hand, detailed information is currently available about these markets. On the other hand, it would still be necessary to better understand what are the specific SMR technologies that could properly address the concerns that are particular to these locations, especially the need to ensure adequate supply of electricity in unusual conditions. Besides the flexibility issues and the various characteristics that impact the capacity factor of the power plant, topics of interest also include, but are not limited to: technical feasibility of unattended operation; the extent to which the power plant would be dependent on specialized maintenance; possibility of using backup heat sources for the power cycle.
